Wrapping Coordinator
Akemi Tahara
Cocoro*Kurumu opened in Kochi Prefecture in 2010 under the concept of “giving shape to your heart” in the hope of helping to convey happiness through wrapping. The owner, Akemi Tahara, is also the president of the “Washi de Kawaii Association,” which uses washi paper to make everyday objects cute.
A native of Tosa City, Kochi Prefecture, he makes extensive use of Morisa washi, one of the most popular types of local washi, and devises design-oriented packaging to meet the needs of his customers. She is also a good student of washi, creating and selling cute washi products and teaching display and packaging techniques to local high school students, stores, and department stores. He is one of the most knowledgeable people in the field of washi, making the most of its texture and design, and knows best the advantages of the material.
Mr. Tahara is working daily to “let more people know that such beautiful washi can be made in Kochi, to use washi more in our daily lives, and to promote a lifestyle of living with washi.
History.
History of papermaking and Morisa
The history of Morisa’s washi papermaking dates back more than 200 years to the late Edo period, when Hosuke Morisawa began papermaking in Takaoka (now Tosa City). In August 1986, the ninth generation of the Morisawa family, Kiyomitsu Morisawa, who had been making paper for a living since then, established Morisa Co., Ltd. with the main business of processing promotional pocket tissues, which were in high demand at the time.
The following year, in 1962, the company established paper machines and dyeing machines and began manufacturing washi again. As demand for shoji paper and other paper products declined year by year, the company sought new markets for washi while developing paper with unprecedented functionality and design.
In September 2009, Yoshitomo Morisawa assumed the position of Representative Director and shifted the focus of the business to more feminine and detailed product creation and marketing, partly due to the Japanese modern and nostalgic cultural climate.
We are constantly researching and developing new ways to bring the appeal of washi to consumers.
Fun, interesting, and beautiful.
Morrisa has been developing and producing fun and interesting paper products with the goal of making people’s lives more beautiful and colorful.
Fun, interesting, and beautiful.”
This phrase succinctly expresses the purpose of Morisa’s business and the reason for its existence, and is our management philosophy.
Since its establishment in 1986, Morisa has based its business on this concept up to the present.
We will continue to stand on our management philosophy and open up a new future with a spirit of “Creation and Challenge”.
